Glad you're here.

From to time to time, I'll upload new work from recent portrait shoots I've had. The images won't be limited to just portraits but odds and ends photographs that I find interesting. Keeps things fresh. When I find stunning photo on the web somewhere, portrait or otherwise, I'll post it here, too. I love sharing great images.

I am fortunate to be doing something I truly enjoy. I hope you will find a bit of visual inspiration when you drop by the blog. A great way to stay in touch is via the Samtina Pictures Fan page on Facebook.

Zaina and Doug.

I don't get asked photograph many weddings.  But when I was asked by my close friends Zaina and Doug, I jumped at the chance.  Not just because they're my friends, but because their wedding was to be a traditional Orthodox wedding, one of the most beautiful events on the planted.  Here are some images from that day.

Zaina

Traditional Orthodox Weddings begin at the Narthex of the church, at the entrance to the temple. The bride and groom exchange rings. This is the Betrothal ceremony. The officiating priest then leads them towards the Nave at the front of the church the for The Crowning, Dance of Isaiah and Drinking from the Common Cup.

The Crowning symbolize the glory and honor that is being bestowed on them by God, and the the ribbon symbolizes their unity. The Common Cup represents the marriage of Cana at Galilee. It was at this wedding that Jesus performed his first miracle, changing water into wine, which was then given to the married couple. Wine is given to the couple and they each drink from it three times.

Sunshine Girls

My good friend Kenny called late last Fall and said, "Bro, I need some portraits of the fam.  Christmas is coming up.  You up for it?"

"Oh yeah!"

We chose the linear park off Ponce de Leon in Atlanta on a gorgeous Fall afternoon.  The leaves had peaked a few weeks earlier but with the help the angle of the sun this time of year the colors popped even more.  While the colors of the season were nice, I couldn't resist making some into black and white.  Here are a few of my fav's from the shoot.

Michelle.

I recently had the pleasure of photographing Michelle Au last week for her upcoming book she's writing called "This Won't Hurt a Bit."  If you're interested in the medical field, Michelle's book is a must read.  Here's the link.  http://www.michelleau.com/ .  She also keeps a blog at http://theunderweardrawer.blogspot.com/ .   It's a fun read on medical school, residency, motherhood, becoming a real doctor and all that happens after that. Check it out.

Anyway Michelle called, liked my portraits and told me what she had in mind.  She said she was a nervous subject but you wouldn't know it once you met her.  We choose some fun locations in Virginia-Highlands and went to work.  Below are some of the images we made.   The first one is the image she'll be using for her book.
